Wine Dinner Blog
A couple of my friends and I got some pizza this week decided do have some wine with it.
We started off with chips, and used hummus as a condiment.
Our main course was pizza from Dominos. We had two different pizzas. First one was the standard margarita pizza with tomato sauce. The second was one made out of alfredo sauce with chicken and jalapeno as the toppings.
Lastly we had some pound cake that my roommate had made that day.
Wine 1: Barefoot Moscato
Variety:
Region: Pediment
Country: Italy
Year: Not provided
Price: $5.99
Label description: Barefoot Moscato is a sweet, lively white wine with a light, crisp acidity. Tropical aromas of pineapple and orange blossom meet highlights of juicy peach, honey and lemon zest for a perfectly refreshing finish.
My review of this wine on its own: The Moscato was has really clear color and clear look. It tasted really sweet and had citrous flavors like oranges and lime.
Region
Country: Italy
Year: 2018
Price: 12.99
Label description: Terra is a naturally sparkling wine with an intense crimson-red color. Full bodied and vinous, with notes of violets together with raspberry and blueberry jams, this wine is smooth and fragrant, delicate and fresh. It is best enjoyed while the wine is young.
My review of this wine on its own: The terra was very sweet almost like grape juice. It had fruity flavors but it was smooth at the same time.
Wine 3: Mourvedre Rose
Region: Contra Costa County
Country: California
Year: 2020
Price: 11.99
Label description: In the wonderful tradition of rosés found in Portugal, Spain, Italy and France, our Mourvèdre Rosé is perfect on its own, well-chilled. It shows pleasant aromas of fresh plums and passion fruit, and flows onto the palate with a light-body and layers of raspberry, watermelon and passion fruit. The finish has a notable, crisp freshness.
My review of this wine on its own: The pale pink look of the Mourvedre Rose was really nice. It had hints of strawberries and watermelon at first taste. Very balanced in the sense that it had medium acidity and medium sweetness.
- I taught the Moscato went really well with the chips. It was ideal in that the saltiness and sourness of the chips combined with hummus evened out the sweetness of the Moscato.
- The Mourvedre Rose paired very nicely with the alfredo sauce pizza that had chicken. Not as much with the margarita pizza.
- The Terra was best when combined with the pound cake. The sweetness of the pound cake and terra complimented each other and added to the favors of the cake.
